The 3rd Annual Sports Center Chum Run is the first event of its kind on the Crystal Coast.

The Chum Run is a 5k Obstacle Run to benefit children's programs at Camp Albemarle. There are approximately 15 obstacles of all types, including an open water swim, to challenge your strength and endurance.

The Little Chummers Run for ages 7-15 makes this a fun event for the whole family. Participants swim, jog, crawl, climb, slide and jump their way to the finish line, where fans, refreshments and showers are waiting.

New for 2017... a new location! This year's race is held at Camp Albemarle (in Newport, NC).

Multiple heats accommodate participants of different ages and ability levels. A timing system is provided for a select number of heats, but the goal is to HAVE FUN completing the event.

Little Chummers race open to ages 7-15. Must be 16 years of age to participate in main event.

Choose to complete both the run and the swim, or just the run. Participants must complete both the run and swim to be eligible for awards.

  • 7:45 am - Little Chummers Race
  • 8:00 am - Police & Fire Dept Race
  • 8:30 am - Wave #1
  • 8:45 am - Wave #2
  • 9:00 am - Wave #3
  • 9:15 am - Wave #4

(Number of waves depends on number of participants)


Entry Fees

Little Chummers race - $20

Police vs. Fire Fighters Race - $100 (team of 4)

Chum Run - $35 (in advance), $45 (day of race)

T-shirts included in Chum Run & Police/Fire Dept races (not Little Chummers race).

Monetary Sponsorships

Sponsorships are available for various sites, obstacles and areas of the race. For example, each obstacle will have a corporate sponsor as will each water table and first aid station. Your company's signs, banners and logos will be seen as a vital part of the success of this fun event.

  • One obstacle named after your sponsor - First come, first serve. We have space for Bluefin Tuna sponsors at 11 obstacles.

Spanish Makerel $350
  • Spanish Makerel sponsors will provide the 2 water stations

Blue Fish $150
  • Name/logo promoted on website and social media

In-Kind Sponsorships

Many of the material needs for the Chum Run are being met through product/service donations. If you have a service or product that would be helpful, we are available to discuss an In-Kind donation. Please realize that the 9 Chum Run obstacles will be assigned to monetary sponsors only.
