Overnight Oats Saves the Day

By Alana Counts

No matter if you are raising kids, trying to get out the door for work, or simply unorganized, one meal is easily forgotten about; Breakfast. We all know that the most important meal of the day is breakfast, but many of us skip this meal entirely. After a good night’s rest our body is low on energy, and needs our help to “jumpstart” it. Making sure to have a well balanced breakfast can optimize your brains ability to send messages to the rest of your body, helping to wake you up. This is where overnight oats saves the day! These little jars are packed protein, carbohydrates, fats, and fiber, all of which our body needs. Made the night before, or at the beginning of the week, overnight oats can be made to fit your dietary needs and/or taste buds! Simply follow the recipe below to get started!

Equipment: Small jars

Yogurt: Try to find one that is low in sugar, high in protein; typically a Greek Yogurt. These can also be flavored yogurts, though they do tend to have a higher sugar sometimes so just read the label.

Milk: Soy, almond, whole, skim; you choose.

Oats: Red Bob Mills makes a 5 Grain oats which is packed with whole grains, flax seed and more, but any oat will work.

Fruit: Optional, but always yummy!

Directions: Mix, cover, put in fridge, sit back and relax!

Tomorrow Breakfast is served!
